This self-injurious syndrome refers to the type of behavior that is referred to as a coping mechanism to negative feelings. A person with self-injurious behavior exhibits actions that harm oneself such as cutting, ripping one’s hair out, hitting oneself and the like. A person with this disorder has physical manifestations of violence towards oneself. However, it usually does not extend to suicide attempts.
